Creating a portfolio of all the work I have completed over the last seven weeks was sort of stressful. As I put each project onto one post I found that the range of work I completed over the semester is so different. I created work based on my personal interests and companies that I believe in.
Over the course of seven weeks I have used Canva, Adobe Illustrator, and InDesign to reach my goal of understanding the principles and practices of graphic design. I have experience making graphic designs through my internships and undergraduate visual design course but I felt that I did not have a solid grasp on typography, grid structures, and color theory. This course enabled me to create a range of projects that incorporated these fundamentals.
My favorite project from this semester that will remain on my portfolio is my branding materials for Fortified Performance. It is rewarding watching the people I care about succeed which led me to feel most passionate about helping the owner, Marisa Forti, expand her brand.
I also really enjoyed the sneak peak to UX design at the end of this course. I was enabled to bring my undergraduate capstone project to life and feel that I have the basis knowledge to start designing a website or newsletter in the future.
Overall, I am pleased with the work I have created in this class but that is not to say it cannot be improved. During one of the zoom meetings Professor Grace encouraged students to take breaks from the designs we were making and return to them at a different time for a new perspective. Over the summer I plan to improve some of the projects based on feedback from Professor Grace as well as my own critiques after looking at the work for a long time.
I am happy with the experience and knowledge I’ve learned because I will use it in my future design based media internships and careers.
